- Eligibility: Students must have appeared for or passed Class 12 (10+2) examinations recognized by the Central Government.
- Registration: Candidates must register with the ICAI at least four months before the examination date

- Structure & Papers (400 Marks Total):
- Paper 1: Accounting (Descriptive)
- Paper 2: Business Laws (Descriptive)
- Paper 3: Quantitative Aptitude (Objective: Math, Logical Reasoning, Statistics)
- Paper 4: Business Economics (Objective)
- Passing Criteria: A minimum of 40% marks in each paper and an overall aggregate of 50% in all four papers is required to pass.
- Negative Marking: Objective papers (3 & 4) have a penalty of 0.25 marks for wrong answers.
- Significance: It is the first of three levels—Foundation, Intermediate, and Final—needed to become a Chartered Accountant.
